PETER WRIGHT

Peter Wright completed a 29-yr coaching career at Cal, retiring as Director of Men’s Tennis, in 2021.

Prior to this, Peter was a successful Professional player himself, playing at Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the Davis Cup for Ireland.

At CAL, he has an impressive resume leading the Bears to  the NCAA Championship Tournament in 20 consecutive years.  Cal Players have received 20 ITA All-American selections.

Peter has received many awards for his excellence in coaching.  He was Pac 10/12 Coach of the yr. in 1997, 2001, 2016. And he has been inducted into the Usta NOR CAL Hall of Fame.

Peter’s commitment to tennis goes beyond Cal, receiving the prestigious ITA Meritorious Service Award in 2017, for his contributions to the sport and also the ITA National Campus and Community Outreach Award for his leadership in increasing tennis Participation throughout the community, both on and off campus.

He is dedicated to bringing tennis to inner-City kids, through his involvement on the Board of YTA, Youth Tennis Advantage.  In 2001, he established Bear Trax, bringing YTA kids  to the campus for tutoring and tennis instruction.
